Game Description & Reviews:
Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game for the PlayStation 2 published by Konami and released in 2001.
Although Silent Hill 2 is the second instalment in the Silent Hill series, it is not a direct sequel to the previous game. Instead it revolves around a different character, James Sunderland, who arrives at the eponymous town after receiving a letter written by his wife, saying she is waiting for him in their 'special place' in Silent Hill. The thing is, his wife has been dead for some time.
In the tradition of survival horror games, Silent Hill 2 is presented in a 3rd person perspective and consists mainly of going about different parts of an area (in this case the town) finding various items to bypass obstacles (such as keys to open locked doors) and solving puzzles here and there while you search for your wife and in the process stitch the backstory together.
Combat is relegated to a secondary place, although you will be faced by dangerous opponents that will require for you to dispatch them via that time-honoured alternative to parlaying: carefully placing many a bullet upon choice parts of their bodies.
Controls are a bit clunky when played on a computer without a gamepad, and the camera can be disorienting at times, but once you get used to the game's control idiosyncrasies you will be fine.
Silent Hill 2 is one of those rare cases in which the sequel is universally agreed is superior to its predecessor. A classic game that should be experienced by everyone.

Talk about Silent Hill 2 (USA) (En,Ja):
Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.Back in 1999, Konami unleashed Silent Hill, its first entry into the survival horror genre. But rather than ape the shock-based thrills popularized by Capcom’s Resident Evil series, Konami went for a darker, creepier feel in everything from the game’s environments, to the monsters, to the story itself. The resulting game offered its own fair share of shocks, as well as some genuinely fearful, emotional, and disturbing moments. What began as a game with something of a cult following has ballooned into a strong franchise, giving the new Silent Hill 3 some big shoes to fill.
