Inspiron 1300 Ethernet Controller Driver Download
- #2You need to install the drivers for the items listed. The Dell website should have them for downloading.
- #3As I am unable to get on the Net, could I just download the drivers on another PC, burn onto CD and then transfer to my Dell? Sorry if this sounds obvious...just wanted to make sure!!?
- #4As far as I know this means that you have not got drivers installed. The Ethernet driver will be needed for the browsers to connect and to use the local network. Have you got a driver disc (I would have thought if you used the correct reinstall CD for the 1300 from Dell it should have installed the correct drivers)?
I did this on a dell 1200 with the wrong CD (another model) and had to download the drivers using another PC for that specific model. Then it worked. Get the ethernet driver working then use that machine to download it's other drivers. - #5As far as I know this means that you have not got drivers installed. Right, many thanks for that! Im guessing I must be using the wrong software to reinstall XP to be honest (or maybe there was a drivers CD, I simply dont remember!) - #6Of course, if you reinstall using a MS windows OS CD you will need your licence code (usually on bottom of PC). This will install all the OS and all standard drivers from MS which will certainly allow the ethernet to work and probably the others. If the graphics drivers still give problems then go to Dell site and get them! Over and out.

You mean, if I use the wrong licence code (which I may have done)....it can fail to install the correct drivers? Is that what you're saying? - #8This will install all the OS and all standard drivers from MS which will certainly allow the ethernet to work and probably the others.
One of my PCs has and onboard ethernet controller that windows does not have a built-in driver for and I need to make sure the driver can be got without a web connection. So windows does not always give you the web after a clean install - #9So windows does not always give you the web after a clean install
How utterly silly. I mean, really, it is. Having googled this problem it seems a lot of people have driver problems when reinstalling windows. - #10It's not silly, when you re-install you wipe your disc clean and start again - drivers and all. If you have your system discs you'll be fine as the drivers for your motherboard will be on it - including the one for your ethernet.
As well as the net not working, you'll probably have no audio, and a really basic set of screen colours. Once you get online again, the windows update site will provide much of what you need. be prepared for rather a lot of updates and re-starting!
Note, downloading and installing SP3 is a good idea as many of the recent updates are included in it and will mean less time spent updating your system. - #11
When XP was first released it didn't have a big database of drivers for specific hardware, if you install a recent version of XP (including SP3) it'd (as Appleseed said) probably find most drivers that you need. How utterly silly. I mean, really, it is. Having googled this problem it seems a lot of people have driver problems when reinstalling windows.
What I'd do is get SP3 onto a memory stick and update your fresh install, before installing any apps.
You'll end up installing SP3 anyway, and earlier is better. - #12Drivers should NOT be a problem if you use the MS XP CD or later as most chip drivers are on it. Go to the MB manufacturer for specific ones and save them for a later reinstall. VERY unusual for the ethernet not to work with a basic install.
Note on SP3. I have BT Hub and when SP3 went on I have errors from the BT Norton (Unexpected error or something like that resulting in the auntivirus being stuck disabled). If you get this, uninstall Norton and redownload from BT site again. You then get the latest version anyway. - #13Well, as above really. With Virgin Media, broadband modem. Had a virus so installed windows XP again but now cant get on the net.

As mentioned by most people this is a driver issue. You can download the drivers from the Dell site. I'd just put them on a flash drive if you've got one since they won't be that large.
The other way (if you've got a wireless router) is to buy or borrrow a wireless dongle and use it to connect to the internet to download the drivers.
